The next day we followed up on two of the leads we had acquired yesterday and finalized one by 3 before anyone else could claim it. The next plan of action was to meet up with Sushil’s fiancĂ© and do something fun. We decided to go to a place called Mac’s Fast food which was the only disappointing meal I’ve had in India so far. I don’t know if it’s because I come from the land of burgers or because their burgers were just awful but either way the thin fried patty that didn’t particularly taste like meat didn’t cut it for me.
After that we went to Leela Palace – an upscale hotel where the richest socialites go to party and spend a couple of days because my cousin wanted to go bowling. When we entered the sports bar it was thumping Akon and all the lights had been dimmed to a point where it was hard to see anything. Basically it seemed like a typical bar. I find that any place in India that projects an image of coolness or modernity feels the need to play the latest American pop songs – it’s a shame that the only American music being exported overseas is that of the chartbusting pop variety.
Then I saw the bowling alley – all three lanes of it. There was a half hour wait before it was our turn – just another indication of the sheer amount of people in India. Even the fanciest places have waiting lines. I went back home that night so that I could make it to work the next day after a thoroughly fulfilling weekend.
